His commercial construction experience began with Perini Building Company in 1996 in Las Vegas, NV where he was the Safety Engineer for the Caesars Palace - Phase II project. The project consisted of the construction of a Roman themed, 29-story hotel tower and a new convention area. After only one year with the company, Vail was promoted to the senior safety position as the Director of Safety, Risk Management & EEO for Perini Building Company, Inc., Western U.S. Division.
During his nine years with Perini, Vail had safety oversight of over 20 major casino/hotel projects including some of the more notable properties as Palms Hotel and Casino, Caesars Palace Phase II, Green Valley Ranch, Red Rock Casino, Hyatt Lake Las Vegas, and the Ritz Carlton Lake Las Vegas. Other significant projects included Forum Shops Phase III, Caesars Colosseum, McCarran Airport D Gates and Bank One Ball Park in Arizona.
In 2005, Vail was recruited by
Kitchell Contractors to develop the safety program for the company’s
newly formed Hawaii division. As Safety Director, Vail oversaw the multi-phase, high-end master planned communities on Kauai and on the
island of Hawaii. Again, after only a short time with the company, Vail
was handpicked to fill the corporate safety position reporting directly
to the president.
In 2013, Vail joined International Line Builders, Inc. / Loy Clark Pipeline Co as the Safety Director overseeing the SoCal division. Ongoing contracts included Southern California Edison and PG&E.
Prior to 1996 Vail spent over 20 years in the United States Navy, with a focus in aviation safety. Before his retirement as a Lieutenant Commander, he was assigned to various aviation squadrons as a pilot and an advanced jet flight instructor, finishing his career on the staff of the Commander-in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet in Hawaii. During his time in the Navy he also held numerous job assignments in squadron operations, and aircraft maintenance.
Vail is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy. He is a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association, and the Military Officers Association of America.
